TIMBER VIEW HAPPENINGS BLOG

Time has been flying by here at Timber View since we closed for the Season back in November. We had a lovely Christmas and celebrated the New Year.... then it was 'back to business'... and planning for our 2009 Season!
Attending two shows this year to see what new products we can introduce into the stores.. Attended the Kansas City show in January. Found some really fun ornaments for the Christmas store.. new designs of the tri-metal jewelry we carry as well as some new Spring designs... some new gourmet food items... and some really cute birdhouses! The end of February we are headed out to Denver to attend a show and we had great success in finding some unique items last year so we are looking forward to the trip.
Ken and I have been in the woodshop this winter. We have been busy making birdhouses! We are making the cutest indoor birdhouses with various themes. If you have ideas for some themes you'd like to see, be sure to email us or post here! We also are working on building exterior birdhouses that are mounted on posts so all you have to do is take them home and stick them in the ground! Great color schemes, made out of cedar.. they look great!
We also have a new supply of wine glass caddies, oven rack push-pulls (new designs) - one is even a Squirrel !! We will have many new items in the stores that were all handcrafted in the woodshop! Our list is long - hopefully we can get to everything because each item is unique! Some of the new items (hopefully) from the woodshop would be a wine bottle/4 wine glass caddy, twisted turned candle sticks, an executive ant farm, fishing rod stand, toys (tractors & locomotive), bug boxes, crosses made from exotic woods... the list is long!!!!
Along with working in the woodshop Spring will have us busy finishing the Christmas Store. We haven't come up with a name for our Christmas Store.... any suggestions? We do have fun ideas for displaying our Christmas merchandise though!
The Christmas store will be a new addition to the stores we already have. For those that have not been out to visit us yet, I'll tell you a bit about Timber View. Timber View is located on our farm - Ken's & mine.. Ken and I have taken vacations and have had such fun visiting little stores off the beaten path and visiting with the owners. Several years back we had the grand idea that we too could have one of those little stores! So, the idea of Timber View was born. We now have a Country Store in the old barn... inside the Country Store is a wide range of gift items.. soaps, candles, wall signs, pictures, gourmet foods, jewelry, home decor items.. and so much more... The Greenhouse has items for the outdoors - windchimes, poke-in-the-ground signs, garland, birdhouses & feeders and more.. Our Birdhouse - what we consider to be the Largest Birdhouse in the Country - is full of birdhouses! Hundreds of them... (well maybe not right now..since we sold so many of them last year!.. ) we are very busy working on new birdhouses in the woodshop - plus we have bought many from other woodworkers and continue to look for unique ones so anyone stopping in should not be disappointed with our Birdhouse selection!!! The Christmas Store will have multiple trees loaded with unique ornaments that you just won't find in the department stores. We carry the cutest Bruskin ornaments that you just have to see.. there is a nice selection of wine ornaments, and if time doesn't slip away.. there should be some fun wood ornaments along with all the other fun ornaments we have found along the way...
We are opening for the 2009 Season Memorial Weekend. We will be open Saturday & Sunday that weekend.. Timber View will then be open Wednesday through Saturday 10-5, and on Sunday from 1-5. Our season is Memorial Weekend through November 15th!
Winter will be over soon and I think everyone will be ready to get outside! So some day if you are looking for a fun and unique destination, come and browse our stores, take a walk in our private vineyard or just stpp out for a visit, we'd sure love to see you! And, if Ken is around he even gives tours of his woodshop to any visiting woodworker! |

It's been a long time since there has been any free time at Timber View to get around to updating the Web Site, including a posting here. Timber View has now been open for two months! It has been a constant work-in-progress and will continue to be so for probably years to come. We opened with the Country Gft Store, the Greenhouse and the Birdhouse stocked with our selections of gifts, decor (indoor & out), birdhouses and many other items.
We have been very pleased with the traffic coming to visit us, especially since we just opened and our location is off the beaten path. Everyone stopping in have given us wonderful compliments on our place so that is very encouraging. We hope the word will continue to spread that we are open and the visitors will continue to grow!
We are taking a breather right now, but it wil be brief. In August, Timber View is hosting 'Sample Saturdays' so visitors can sample some of our gourmet products. And we are planning events for September, October and November. We close down at the end of the Thanksgiving Weekend - and boy.. will we be extra busy then!!
Things to see next season.. our opening of our permanent Christmas Store! I can't wait! I love Christmas.. Any time of the year!! And we have garden trains to incorporate into our new landscaping projects we have planned. We have even more ideas, but they are further down on our list.
This winter Ken and I will be making unique items in the woodshop to be available in the Store and we'll be out scouting for more unique and fun items to be available in our different stores. We are also working on defining our own line of birdhouses that will be offered at Timber View - in the birdhouse!
We love to see the progress - and we have come a long way since even early this Spring...

First, wanted to thank all those that stopped in Saturday for our Plant Sale and Early Mother's Day Shopping. It was fun visiting with everyone and sharing our vision for Timber View.
We made a lot of progress on the barn renovation in April. We now have a second floor inside the barn along with new windows and doors. And we've decided on a boardwalk type walk-way to the front porch which should be installed in May, and then we can get busy with the landscaping! The electrical work is next on the schedule.
The front porch is close to completion (check out the Photo Gallery page). We still need to put up the railing and posts around it, but I can tell already it will be a great place to sit a spell and enjoy the country! Saturday we had several visitors stay awhile and we just seemed to migrate to the porch to visit and enjoy a near perfect Nebraska Spring day! Our last visitors were two couples who stopped in on their Harley's and we enjoyed over three hours of hanging out on the porch and enjoying the late afternoon.
Hope we have many more days like Saturday! And we hope Timber View will be a destination for those that want to come enjoy a day in the Country! |

We have been very busy at Timber View this month. We were trying so hard to get everything ready to open the first part of July. But, sadly, we did a reality check and decided to postpone the opening until early SPRING of 2008! We want to make a great first impression, and there is just so much we want to have in place prior to guests arriving!
We are making good progress on the barn renovation. The porch is up on the South Side of the barn. We still want to put a porch rail around it, but it looks great! We have the East side closed in where the big door used to be where the tractors would go in to get the hay. A new door has been installed on that East side too. Looks great!
Saturday we are hosting a plant sale since the Greenhouse is overflowing with plants! The weather is supposed to be great so hope the local folks will come out and give us a visit to see what we are up to at Timber View! |
